One of the things in my bucket list is to put up a online counseling service for OFWs and their families. Loneliness, homesickness, depression -all that is part and parcel of their lives simply because they feel they have no other option. And although our economy and their family gains financially - the costs are high too. Some OFWs break down. Children become estranged from their parents. Marriages fall apart. The sad thing is that unless our economy and government improves - labor migration will continue to be a reality. So I figured that the least we can do is help them adjust by providing a space, a person for them to vent. Recently got funding to put up what i call Lifeline Online where OFWs and their families can log on to either chat among themselves or one-on-one with a counselor. Because the site needs to be staffed 24/7, you can imagine the costs entailed. Have funding good for 6 months but am hoping that once we get it off the ground, I will be able to get corporate sponsorship to sustain our efforts. Still, volunteers and donations to the cause are very much welcome!
