I have a new baby! Nope its not human. More virtual. Its a site that provides
FREE online counseling for OFWs and their families ( http://ofwonline.ateneo.edu).
I first thought about doing this in December 2007 when I attended the ICT for Development conference in Bangalore. Eventually, I was able to get funding from the Singapore Internet
Research and Development Center and support from Ateneo CORD, the Ateneo Psychology Department, the Ateneo Department of Information Systems and Computer Science with support, the UGAT Foundation and the and International Skills Development, Philippines.
This site was made possible by the support of Dr. Isabel Melgar, Fr. Nila Tanalega and our volunteer counselors, Tojie Tuliao, Kathleen de Jesus-dela Rosa, Anj
Ang, Arlene Diaz, Cherry Frondozo, Elsbeth Llama, Gary Faustino, Jen
Wong, Jo Anne Dumlaon, Kamille Tabalan, Karla Clemente, Melissa
Garabiles, Michelle Watkins,Paola Loot, Poch Velasquez, Renee Ortega,
Robert Queddeng, Sheri Zerna, and Viola Torres.
Just goes to show that dreams can come true - with a little luck and a lot of prayers and perseverance! Please do check out the site and spread the word if you know of OFWs and their families who may benefit from this service!
